Visa Horror Stories of a “Third World” Traveler

What it’s really like to apply for visas on a Philippine passport: the paperwork, the rejections, and why we kept traveling anyway.

Pat’s story

Seeing the world on a “harder” passport

Pat is from the Philippines, and a Filipino passport means applying for visas almost everywhere: piles of paperwork to prove her worth as a tourist, more rejections than she’d like to count, and the odd rude consular officer.

She nearly gave up. She didn’t. Chasing Places exists to show that you don’t need a “powerful” passport, or a millionaire’s budget, to see the world.

“Everyone can do what they want or get what they want if they are willing to fight for it.”

About us

Hi there! We’re Pat & Josh.

We met working as crew on a cruise ship in the South Pacific, survived a long-distance relationship between two countries, and have traveled together every chance we get ever since: more than 100 destinations so far.

Chasing Places grew out of that passion. It’s a place to learn how to travel smarter and better, written for people with real jobs, real families and real budgets.
